about

uncovering - Sloan Wainwright’ s ninth studio album - is a stunning eclectic collection of memorable songs that includes some classic covers, some poignant interpretations of lesser known songs and , sprinkled in. some new original material. Along with producers David Mansfield and Stewart Lerman and musicians - Glenn Patscha (keyboards), Tony Leone (drums), Tim Luntzel (bass), Cyra Baptista (percussion), Stephen Murphy, John Scofield, Sam McTavey and Elaine Caswell, they have created a beautiful and rich production that crosses the distance from rootsy and swampy to clean and groovy to folksy to raw emotion and always at the center, Sloan’s soulful voice.

The CD opens with Dear George , Sloan’s love letter to her beloved husband who passed way from cancer. Next there is the moving interpretation of Paul Simon’s Something So Right which leads into Jules Shear’s “ Dreams Don’t Count “. On to Sloan’s gutsy re-imagining of Laura Nyro’s “ Wedding Bell Blues " joined by her pal, John Scofield.
“Truth Turns Like A Wheel “by David Mansfield is a perfect fit for Sloan’s haunting contralto as is, Ewan MacColl’s “ First Time Ever I Saw Your Face “
, the traditional, “ Ain’t No Grave “ and the glorious Joni Mitchell cover “ Conversation “
Sloan and the band have rollicking time with “ On A Night Like This “ as they nod in direction of Bob Dylan.
The CD finishes up with Rob Morsberger’s haunting “ This Isn’t Kindness “ - a duet with Sloan’s son - Sam McTavey.
And then “ My Door Is Always Open To You “ a tuneful original.
